Cathedral City garage fire under investigation

The Cathedral City Fire Department is investigating a garage fire that sparked Monday night.

Firefighters were called to the 32200 block of Aurora Vista Road at 8:30 p.m. That’s where flames were coming from inside a garage at a duplex near Date Palm Drive and Ramon Road.

A News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 photojournalist at the scene photographed a large number of plants inside the burning garage.

According to the Cathedral City Police Department, a marijuana grow operation was taking place in the garage but no criminal charges were filed because the resident has a medical marijuana card.

The fire was contained to two garages at the duplex. Although we now know what was in the garage, fire investigators haven’t released the cause of the fire at this time.

The fire remains under investigation. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver more details as soon as we hear back from the Cathedral City Fire Department.
