Chemical spill evacuates 2nd floor of Lucy Curci Cancer Center

It only took two teaspoons of a chemical spilling in a genetics lab at Eisenhower Medical Center’s Lucy Curci Cancer Center to evacuate the whole second floor Thursday morning.

An unspecified chemical was spilled onto the floor at about 10 a.m. by a tenant who was using the lab located inside the cancer center, according to officials.

The tenant wasn’t an employee at Eisenhower Medical Center; just an employee of the lab.

As a matter of protocol, the floor was evacuated and a Hazmat expert was called to contain the spill, which was less than a third of an ounce, officials said.

One lab employee was referred to the emergency department as a precaution, according to the release.

The second floor reopened at 11 a.m. Operations on the first floor weren’t affected.
