Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to close for maintenance
Officials at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway said upcoming maintenance will force them to shut down operations for about a week.
The annual maintenance is scheduled to begin Monday, September 14, with a tentative plan to reopen on Saturday, September 26 at 8 a.m., according to the release.
Officials described the future improvements on Thursday.
“This year’s shutdown will provide an opportunity to rebuild the main gearbox, change two large counterweight sheave bearings at the Mountain Station, shorten the upper haul rope, and construct a new Valley Station domestic water storage tank,” said Tramway Vice President of Maintenance Nick Clesceri. “These major projects are in addition to our regular tramway maintenance tasks that are completed during our annual shutdown period.”
Nancy Nichols, vice president of sales and marketing, said, “The Tramway runs seven-days-a-week, year-round, so-while we regret the inconvenience our annual closure causes-this time ensures that we are able to operate smoothly the other 353 days of the year.”
