A Cathedral City man was arrested Friday morning after Palm Springs police caught him breaking into a business in the 400 block of South Farrell Drive.
Officers didn’t say which business was targeted, but it’s located just west of Palm Springs High School. They responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. after a burglary alarm was triggered.
According to the release, officers noticed evidence that someone had broken into the business and they saw the suspect, Mario Salazar-Mayen, AKA Saul Hernandez, walking around inside the business carrying several military surplus knives and clothing.
He dropped the items when officers contacted him and we was arrested at the scene.
As the investigation continued Friday morning, the Palm Springs Police Department received a report of a burglary that occurred overnight at a business in the 300 block of South Farrell Drive, just before the attempted burglary Salazar-Mayen was arrested for.
Based on evidence and statements collected, officers had probable cause to believe Salazar-Mayen committed the burglary in the 300 block of South Farrell Drive.
He was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on a felony charge of commercial burglary and misdemeanor charges for possession of burglary tools and possession of a methamphetamine pipe.
Salazar-Mayen is either 36-years-old or 37-years-old; officers have two birth dates listed for him due to his alias.
He’s expected to make his first court appearance this week.
