Man dies after being hit by car on Indio Blvd.

A man is dead after getting hit by a car in Indio early Saturday morning, police say.

At 5:05 a.m., a white Dodge Dakota was traveling west on Indio Blvd. when it hit a man crossing near Civic Center Way. Indio police say the driver stopped and called 9-1-1 immediately, remaining at the scene and cooperating with law enforcement.

The pedestrian, a 30 to 40-year-old man was taken to a local hospital where he died.

The driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision, police say. The exact cause of the traffic collision is actively under investigation.

As of 7 a.m., police say westbound Indio Blvd. will be closed for several hours while the investigation continues. Eastbound Indio Blvd. remains open.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office should be contacted for the identity of the deceased party; it will release that information after notifying next of kin.

Anyone with any additional information regarding this accident is encouraged to contact the Indio Police Department (760-391-4057) or the Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers.
