Dogs dead, missing after break-in at RivCo animal shelter

Two dogs are dead and 13 others are missing following a break-in at the Riverside County Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley.

Riverside County investigators are reviewing surveillance video from Saturday night and Sunday morning, looking for clues as to who may have deliberately released dogs from kennels.

RivCo Animal Services Public Information Officer John Welsh says at least two dogs died or were killed; they do not know if the dogs were killed by the trespasser, or were attacked by larger dogs and succumbed to injuries. Chief Veterinarian Dr. Allan Drusys will be examining the dogs with his team.

Approximately 13 dogs are missing or unaccounted for from current inventory of kenneled animals, Welsh said, also noting locks at the shelter were deliberately cut.

The investigation is ongoing.

The shelter is located at 6851 Van Buren Blvd., Jurupa Valley.
