Sinkhole closes eastbound Fred Waring in Indian Wells

A water main ruptured and damaged a main roadway in Indian Wells, impacting the commute for drivers in the area for the next week or so.

The Coachella Valley Water District said a recycled water main burst on Fred Waring Drive Saturday afternoon and created some serious damage. The road collapsed in one lane.

All eastbound lanes are closed from El Dorado and Warner Trail and will remain closed for several days as crews assess the damage and make repairs.

Westbound lanes of Fred Warning are open.

CVWD said this is a recycled water main that broke, which provides water to local golf courses. It will not affect drinking water for the area.

It may interrupt water delivery to golf courses, but it is still too early to tell.

CVWD is working with the city of Indian Wells to make repairs as quickly as possible, but the closure will most likely affect Monday’s morning commute.
