Coachella driver killed in morning crash identified

A Coachella driver is dead after his car struck a telephone pole Saturday morning.

Police found 81-year-old Carlos Contreras at the intersection of Grapefruit Boulevard and First Street around 7:00 Saturday morning.

Police say Contreras’ car crashed into a telephone pole. No other car, was involved.

He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
