Aviation mechanics needed at PSP

The Flying Aviation Expo in Palm Springs is helping people young and old get a chance to get an up close look at the latest technology helping people take to the sky.

“I think that kids can maybe see the planes and get inspired by the size of the plane and maybe the computes in the planes and how you can get in there with a stick and fly the planes,” said Yannis Christensen of Palm Springs.

If these kids or adults are thinking of a career in aviation there are jobs availble locally.

“Right now there is a need for mechanics at this airport right now, we have got a need for half a dozen aviation mechanics working for the two fixed base operators,” said Harold Williamson, he’s been working in aviation for decades and at one point was the President of the Palm Springs Air Museum.

Becoming an aviation mechanic takes a lot of training but there are resources here in the desert to learn the trade.

“Hopefully the education system will help get people more interested, because you can go to Rancho Mirage High School and take some classes and end up being a mechanic and those are a very lucrative neat business,” said Williamson.

On average a aviation mechanic can earn upwards of $57,000 a year.
