Huell Howser honored on Palm Springs Walk of Stars
Many got to know TV legend Huell Howser from the comfort of their couch.
Howser was best known for hosting the human interest show “California Gold”.
Howser passed away in 2013, but was cemented in Palm Springs history Sunday as the 388th star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
Hundreds of fans gathered to celebrate his life and achievements.
Over the 18 seasons of California Gold, the place he came back to time and time again was Palm Springs
“I think he loved the history. He loved the nature and going into the Indian Canyons and looking out over the palm trees,” said event organizer Kay Adkins.
Adkins spearheaded the effort to get Howser a star.
“I couldn’t believe Huell didn’t have a star in Palm Springs, he loved this area,” Adkins said.
Our own Samantha Cortese was vital in raising awareness about the star and spoke at the ceremony.
Other fans and close friends joined in remembering Howser’s unique personality.
Carole Anne Kaufman, the two time international musical whistling grande champion, remembered when she was featured on the show.
“Such a wonderful experience to work with Huell. He is the consummate professional, he comes ready to record and he knows what he’s going to do. And somehow allows the organic flow to happen,” Kaufman said.
Videographer Luis Fuerte, who worked alongside Howser for 12 years, remembered his colleagues motto.
“He said ‘Remember Luis keep it simple, we’re not doing brain surgery here’,” Fuerte said.
One thing everyone agreed upon was Howser’s talent for telling stories and taking everyone on an adventure.
