Palm Desert fire burns building, palm trees

About 40 firefighters were on scene of a 3-alarm fire in Palm Desert Saturday night. It started around 9 p.m at the 48500 block of Oakwood Way, near Highway 74.

The first arriving engine reported several palm trees on fire that also sparked flames on to the rear of a building.

CAL FIRE reports one duplex has fire damage and a second unit with smoke damage.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to help an unknown number of persons displaced.

Palm Desert police were also assisting with traffic control and there are also several town homes in the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries reported.
