Fire causes partial roof collapse of Indio furniture store

Over two dozen firefighters with Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department responded early Thursday morning to a commercial structure fire in Indio.

At least one business is destroyed and four to five more stores are being inspected for smoke and water damage. The most damage occurred at a store called Valley Best Furniture.

The blaze broke out around 2:30 a.m. on the 81-500 block of Industrial Place, near the Monroe St. exit of Interstate 10.

According to Cal Fire, the flames caused the roof of the building to partially collapse. The Incident Commander says the fire burned a portion of the interior as well as the exterior of the building.

Crews had the fire knocked down by 3:30 a.m.

It was not immediately clear how the fire started or if there were any injuries.

Fire crews blocked off access to Industrial Place.
