Man arrested after task force seizes 8 assault rifles from auto shop

Several law enforcement agencies raided an auto body shop in Indio and seized a number of assault rifles Thursday evening.

The Riverside Autotheft Interdiction Detail (RAID) task force began serving a search warrant around 6 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at Competition Tire and Wheel, located in the 83-600 block of Highway 111 near Indio Boulevard.

Crews were still there at 11 p.m. when News Channel 3 was live from the scene.

RAID confiscated eight assault rifles, ammunition, a handgun, two silencers, and seven high capacity magazines from the auto shop and arrested 38-year-old Pablo Torres of La Quinta for possession of an assault rifle and possession of high-capacity magazines, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Torres was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force and Coachella Valley Narcotics Task Force assisted with the weapons search.
