LA gang member accused of robbing student in Mecca
A gang member from Los Angeles is accused of robbing a high school student in Mecca.
27-year old Jose Luis Frausto was taken into custody around 5 p.m. Thursday after deputies saw him driving in the 91000 block of Fifth Street in Mecca. The vehicle he was driving was allegedly stolen out of El Monte, and contained some of the property that was stolen from the high school student.
Police said Frausto robbed a 17-year old Desert Mirage High School student, taking his school issued iPad last week as the student was walking to the bus stop early in the morning.
The victim said Frausto threatened to shoot him if he didn’t turn it over.
Deputies also searched a location in the 92000 block of National Avenue but didn’t find the iPad.
Frausto was booked on charges of armed robbery and possession of stolen property and was being held on $30,000 bail. He’s scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday in Indio.
