Local Icon, Journalist and Philanthropist Gloria Greer Passes Away

KESQ/CBS Local 2 confirmed today that local entertainment reporter and philanthropist Gloria Greer died at her home this morning at the age of 87.

Greer had been known as the premiere society reporter in the Coachella Valley, rubbing elbows with local celebrities for decades.

Greer worked as a reporter for the NBC-affiliated television station KMIR for 25 years, but also made her mark in interviews on her own television shows and specials. She also edited the Social Life section of Palm Springs Life magazine.

Greer founded the local charity Act for MS, which she formed after one of her daughters was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999. She also was heavily involved with many other non-profit organizations.

Greer had recently announced she was battling cancer, and the coroner’s office said she died of natural causes.

Arrangements have yet to be announced.
