Indio man arrested for hit and run, DUI

A 33-year-old Indio man was arrested Sunday for hit and run and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The La Quinta Police Department responded to the area of Dune Palms and Vista Coralina after receiving reports of a hit and run crash around 3:45 p.m Sunday. The preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling north on Dune Palms and struck a Jeep turning northbound onto Dune Palms from Vista Coralina.

The driver of the Jeep sustained non-life-threating injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Manuel Moreno Martinez, was determined to be driving on a suspended license for a prior DUI, fled the scene.

Martinez was located at his residence, where he was evaluated and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Police discovered both of Martinez’s juvenile children were in the Chevrolet at the time of the crash and both sustained minor non-life-threating injuries.

Martinez was taken to a local area hospital as a precaution before being booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio.
