Desert Hot Springs police standoff began with drive-by shooting
A standoff at a home involving Desert Hot Springs police ended early Tuesday morning around 4:30 after about 17-hours. We’re now learning new information about the hours-long standoff at a home on 6th Street near Palm Drive.
According to Commander Jim Henson, the standoff began Monday morning after a car matching the description of a drive-by shooting at Buena Vista Avenue and Palm Drive was spotted at the home on 6th Street.
Officers surrounded the home and several people came outside. Nobody was detained or arrested, Commander Henson said. But the individuals did indicate that more people could possibly be inside the home.
When officers finally entered the home, they discovered the house was empty.
The earlier shooting incident was unclear on Monday, but now is being described as a drive-by shooting. Henson said suspects shot a a crowd of people in front of a home but nobody was actually shot.
There’s no current word if the car found at the home on 6th Street is the actual car involved in the drive-by.
The investigation is ongoing.
