Man arrested after ransacking Palm Springs home
The Palm Springs Police Department arrested a burglary suspect early Tuesday morning after the man allegedly ransacked a home and led officers on a foot chase through several business complexes.
According to officers, 26-year-old Jesus Alberto Lopez-Heras of Mecca, is facing felony burglary charges.
Lt. Mike Kovaleff said officers responded to a home in the 300 block of Via Colusa at 2:37 a.m. after a burglary alarm was triggered. The suspect was walking out of the front door of the house when officers arrived but he quickly closed the door and retreated into the home.
While officers waited for backup to arrive, Lopez-Heras fled out of another door and scaled a fence exiting the backyard. PSPD officers chased him on foot for about a 1/4 of a mile across business complexes and several streets, Kovaleff said in the release.
An officer was waiting on the other side of a fence which Lopez-Heras climbed and arrested him as he fell to the pavement.
Lopez-Heras was arrested and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. Officers said he’s facing a first degree felony burglary charge and a misdemeanor for resisting arrest.
He was being held in lieu of $35,000 and is expected to make his first court appearance at the Larson Justice Center in Indio on Thursday.
