GoFundMe campaign for hate crime suspect under review
The family of a Palm Springs man has created a GoFundMe webpage to help with his legal bills as he stands accused in a hate crime-related attack against two well-known LGBT activists.
A representative for the fundraising website tells KESQ News Channel 3 the campaign was under review Friday morning and therefore not visible to visitors until that review is complete.
Police say Keith Terranova, 35, and the other man attacked Chris and George Zander in downtown Palm Springs on November 1.
The Zanders said the attack against them was unprovoked.
But Jackie La Fonte said in a Facebook post, “Those who know him (Keith Terranova) know not to believe everything you read.”
La Fonte said she had set up the account because Terranova’s legal fees are expected to be costly.
The drive has a $10,000 goal.
Terranova pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in court on Monday.
He remains behind bars until he provides $80,000 bail.
Kelsea Little, GoFundMe’s Media Director said, “I will get back to you when we have more information. Thanks so much for your patience.”
A second suspect remains wanted by police.
