A 5-month-old baby boy from Twentynine Palms suffered a traumatic brain injury and remains hospitalized after allegedly being abused by his father.
On Thursday around 10 a.m. deputies from the Morongo Sheriff’s Station responded to the 5800 block of Octotillo Ave. in Twenty Nine Palms to assist with a medical aid call involving a 5-month-old baby who was not breathing.
Upon arrival, deputies saw adults doing CPR on the infant and fire personnel arrived shortly thereafter. The baby was taken to Hi Desert Medical Center for treatment. The baby was found to have a traumatic brain injury and was airlifted to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital where he remains hospitalized.
A coordinated investigation involving Morongo Station Detectives and Detectives from Specialized Crimes Against Children lead to the arrest of the baby’s father, 25-year-old Armando Espinosa.
Espinosa was booked into the Central Detention Center for felony child abuse involving great bodily injury resulting in a comatose state. Espinosa’s bail is set at $500,000.
