Update: Fire burns more than 320 acres near Blythe

UPDATE: Sunday 8:45 p.m. The so-called “Highway Fire” has burned 323 acres as of Sunday night. Fire crews remained on scene throughout the day and have the fire about 40 percent contained.

Fire crews hope to have the fire fully contained within the next couple of days.

Original Story

More than 60 firefighters are battling a fire just north of Blythe Saturday.

The 120 acre fire started around 1 p.m. in the Colorado River Indian Reservation.

This is just about twenty miles north of Blythe along Interstate 10, about nine engines were called to the scene.

There are a few resorts up and down the river fire crews believe it started at the edge of one of those properties.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs told us no structures were threatened, but they said that thick smoke could make it dangerous for drivers out there.
