Man gets 3 years for attacking woman with brick

A man who hit a woman in the face with a brick during an argument was sentenced Monday to three years behind bars.

Already a felon, let out of prison early under post-community release supervision, Hernan Jimenez, 36, pleaded guilty during his initial court appearance Nov. 20, to charges of assault likely to produce great bodily injury and resisting arrest.

Jimenez got into an argument with a 21-year-old woman that turned physical, according to Indio Police Department Sgt. Daniel Marshall. Jimenez punched the woman with his fists, before ultimately striking her in the face with a brick, the sergeant said.

A deputy district attorney said the victim suffered a “slight injury” and it was believed she did not seek medical attention.

Jimenez was arrested three days later, when, around 6 p.m. Nov. 17, he ran from officers who spotted him walking near Avenue 44 and Aztec Street, Marshall said. Officers set up a perimeter, conducted a house-to-house search and found Jimenez hiding in a garage in the 43600 block of Pueblo Street.

Jimenez has been held without bail at the Riverside County jail in Indio.
