Cameras get first look inside shooters’ apartment
On Friday, camera crews had their first look inside the apartment of the couple accused of terrorism in the San Bernardino shooting that killed 14 and wounded 21 others.
Federal investigators finished processing the apartment, but it offered little insight into the suspects’ motive.
Inside — half-eaten food was on the floor near toys and a child’s bedding. The couple had a six-month-old daughter together which they reportedly left with the child’s grandmother in the morning before the mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2’s Alexandra Pierce was at the apartment throughout the day Friday to describe the scene.
Our crew arrived shortly after the home had been boarded up by police, but after speaking with people who went inside the home, they said it was complete pandemonium and chaos. People were reportedly pushing each other and even taking things. It was a turn of events rarely seen during an investigation of this severity.
One man we spoke with captured the whole thing on camera.
Chris Gribas has lived in Redlands for 11 years and just happened to be near the home of Syed Farook and Tasheen Malik when the frenzy took place. He said he got an eerie feeling inside the home and was completely surprised he was even allowed inside.
Gribas said the landlord was taken away by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department after giving a few interviews.
Now the home remains boarded up; a reminder to all in the area of the people who used to live there.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will speak to the landlord Friday night to learn more details. You can see watch that interview at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. If you can’t get to a TV, you can always watch us online.
