8 students arrested for rioting at Yucca Valley school

On Tuesday, deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a riot at the Yucca Valley Community Day School located on the corner of Yucca Trail and Barberry Ave.

Several students at the school were out of control, throwing objects, including desks, and rushing school staff in an aggressive manner. Deputies spoke with several students inside the classroom. Authorities said the ages of the students ranged from 12 to 17.

When deputies stepped outside the classroom to speak with the teacher, students forcefully slammed the interior classroom door shut locking it, preventing deputies and school staff from entering the classroom.

While deputies were trying to enter, the students vandalized the classroom by knocking over bookshelves, throwing desks, chairs, and trash cans.

Deputies successfully entered the classroom where they quickly gained control of the students and detained them for further investigation.

Authorities gathered information that led to the arrest of eight juveniles for participating in a riot and one juvenile for assault and battery. Each of the juveniles were issued a citation, with a court date to appear and were later released to their parents.

No injuries were sustained by students, school employees, or deputies during this incident.
