Honoring Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday in Palm Springs

It was a celebration in honor of the late Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday in downtown Palm Springs. City leaders and fans honored the legendary singer, songwriter, actor and director Saturday.

As part of a 50-star relocation and reinstallation project, the Palm Springs Walk of Stars relocated and reinstalled a new star for Frank Sinatra and a star for his wife Barbara Sinatra, a fearless philanthropic leader in the Coachella Valley. Her tireless work with the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center was applauded as dozens of people praised the couple for putting the desert on the map.

“His music is still very popular all over the world today,” said Robert Alexander, President of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. “He was truly an icon, he did so many great deeds here in the Coachella Valley, he and his wife. He really helped make Palm Springs popular to the entire Hollywood crowd.”

When construction began, the stars were moved from their prior spot in front of the old downtown Desert Fashion Plaza.

The Sinatra’s stars are now located at the corner of Tahquitz Canyon and Palm Canyon Drive, next to Elvis Presley’s star.
