Spa Resort Casino unveils new entrance

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians held a ribbon cutting ceremony to show off their new Spa Resort Casino entrance.

The newly renovated entrance to the casino is just one of the many improvements made to their Palm Springs site.

“This is where two thirds of our business comes through so with the state of the art signage we hope this will enhance the people coming up from the Palm Springs area into our property,” said Cj Graham, the chief operating officer for the Spa Resort Casino.

Members of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, as well as Palm Springs dignitaries, joined in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

All agreeing this face lift is just another step in the right direction.

“I think the town is changing. It’s becoming an entertainment destination, which we are planning to supply. We’re planning on concerts right across from the casino, starting in January,” said Larry Olinger, the Vice Chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Recently tribal members announced they will be conducting an environmental study to determine plans for their downtown location.

The report will study the potential environmental impacts of expanding the Spa Resort Casino by up to 68 thousand square feet and adding up to 350 new hotel rooms. This after the existing hotel was demolished several months ago.

But everyone is remaining tight lipped about any new updates.

“It will mesh and marry very well, I promise,” Graham said.

Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon said much of this development is good but it’s important to honor the history of the city as well.

“Palm Springs is a mix of old and new. There’s a lot of things that were great here in the last 50 years but were building for the next 50 years. But there’s things we need to keep too,” Moon said.

Everyone agreeing this renovation is just another example of the city moving in the right direction.
