Sunny Cycle lights up Palm Springs roads

As bright as a Christmas tree and as fun as a holiday party, the Palm Springs Sunny Cycle has been rolling around downtown for a couple weeks.

Co-Owners Shannon Miller and Jen Banford bought this $110,000 vehicle and brought is to Palm Springs after enjoying a similar electric limo cycle in Minneapolis.

“We can take as few as 10 people and as many as 15, and it’s moderate to light pedaling so you don’t even have to pedal because it carries 15 people and only 10 have to pedal they’re assisted with an electric motor,” said Miller.

According to Miller, there are only 20 other limo cycles in the United States.

The Sunny Cycle comes with some fun amenities including LED lights, a surround system, a flat pannel TV, and each seat has USB ports to charge mobile devices.

There is also a beer tap installed, but for now it’s running dry.

“Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 530 allowing open liquor on the Sunny Cycle or any business like this, now the city of Palm Springs has to pass it,” said Miller.

There’s nothing currently scheduled on the city council agenda, but Miller and Banford are hoping on getting the ball rolling on getting this bar rolling with booze by later in January.

Currently the Sunny Cycle route travels between a few bars and restaurants, but a group of passengers can make adjustments to that.

Top speed for the limo cycle is 10 mph, but weighted down with a full crew it usually goes about 7 mph.

“It was hard to get used to at first it’s a lot of fun it’s exciting going downtown Palm Springs and seeing everyone’s reaction because we are rolling so slow it’s pretty easy to control,” said Jen Banford who drives the Sunny Cycle.

You can rent the Sunny Cycle fore 2 hours and that will cost $400 dollars, but if you a get a full crew of 15 people, that’s only about $27 a person.
