Update: Brush fire in Ventura County 60 percent contained, evacuations lifted

UPDATE: 9:30 p.m. A 1,238-acre wildfire in coastal Southern California is now 60 percent contained and evacuation orders have been lifted for dozens of homes.

Original Story

A brush fire is spreading out of control and threatening homes in Southern California.

The fire is burning more than 900 acres near Solimar beach in Ventura County.

That’s about 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order for Solimar, and voluntary evacuations for nearby Faria beach.

The famous Pacific Coast Highway is shut down, and officials have also halted railroad traffic.

No word yet on what started this fire but the dry brush due to the drought is causing the fire to spread quickly.
