CHP says local roadways safer this holiday season

The Indio CHP Office has released the Christmas Holidays 4 day weekend statistics and the numbers look better than last year.

CHP began their maximum enforcement crackdown at 6:01 p.m. Thursday night, ending on Sunday at 11:59 p.m. As was the case for the previous two Christmas holidays, no fatal crashes occurred during the enforcement period, though there were two crashes with injuries, down from three in 2014, Officer Jairo Rivera said.

In all, there were five traffic crashes on roadways patrolled by the CHP’s Indio office, down from eight last year.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Indio office arrested 15 motorists on suspicion of DUI during the four-day Christmas holiday weekend enforcement period, the same number of bookings as in 2014.

Another maximum enforcement period is scheduled this weekend, for the New Year’s holiday.
