Marijuana operation possible cause of fire

Cathedral City Police are working to determine whether a fire at an industrial building involved a marijuana growing operation.

The fire happened early Monday night at a building on Bankside Drive just North of Highway 111 in Cathedral City.

Officials say the fire was in an electrical room in the back of the building and it appears an electrical panel overheated.

Firefighters found several marijuana plants growing in one of the units in the building and believe the power drain from the growing operation may have overheated the circuitry.

Police are still trying to figure out who owns the business.

There are no reports of injuries.

Southern California Edison is working to restore power to the building.
