Killer remains on the loose, Police plea for public’s help to solve the crime

The Cathedral City Police Department still needs the public’s help with any information about a suspected shooter who killed a soon-to-be father and his unborn child more than a week ago.

On Wednesday, the Cathedral City Police Department displayed the vehicle, that was shot up by the suspect on December 19th, to show the utter disregard the shooter had for any of the children in the back seat. In fact, one bullet hole by the mirror, is the shot police believe struck the mother killing her unborn baby, she is still in the hospital recovering from her wounds.

The Driver, 38 year old David Chavez reportedly got into some altercation with the suspected shooter after driving through Candy Cane Lane in Cathedral City December 19th.

The description of the shooter is still very vague. He is described as a Hispanic male in his 30, a shaved head, about 6 foot tall and 200 pounds. He was driving a late 90 dark two door SUV. Lt. Glen Haas of Cathedral City Police says it is very important for anyone with any information on the shooter to come forward.

“With the police department there is this misconception from TV that we can put these things together in a relatively short amount of time,” says Haas.

“We can’t do anything without the public’s help. We get there after the fact, witnesses are there at the scene, the evidence is there at the scene, we can do a lot of putting things together, but without people stepping forward and giving us information that is one of the greatest fears that we have that it will go unsolved.”

Haas also believes that there is a good chance the shooter may be from out of the area, and there isn’t enough information to say if it is gang related or not.

They are also asking anyone who has video or pictures from the area on December 19th, to give copies of those pictures or videos to the Cathedral City Police Department to see if there might be any clues in the background of those pictures.
