Joshua Tree family needs help with transportation to Palm Springs hospital

Last April, Stacey Woods and her fiance, Jon Kevin Smith Jr., suffered serious injuries after a crash reportedly caused by a man high on drugs. Woods is still recovering from internal injuries at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

Her father Steven Woods is on disability and a fixed income and makes his way down from Joshua Tree to be with his daughter.

“That’s been pretty tough on us. I try to get here every day. Right now it’s critical, she’s in the physical therapy part,” said Steven Woods. “We need to get her up and walking so we can bring her home.”

The cost of travel and hospital bills are adding up every day.

“I contacted you guys because I have nowhere else to turn. My car is worn out,” said Steven Woods.

“It’s stressful we’re not sure when the car is just going to die on us. Going up the hill is the big problem,” said Smith.

Woods received help from the Hanson House at the hospital, but couldn’t spend nine months there with pets at home. They hope people will help them while Stacey Woods learns to walk again.

“I’m not looking for a lot, I’m just hoping to get a rental car for a month or two,” said Steven Woods.

The family started a Go Fund Me account to raise money for a rental car or one they can rely on.
The goal is to get Woods back on her feet physically and her family back on their feet financially.

“I healed fast as best as I could to motivate her to get better,” said Smith.
