La Quinta man arrested after suspected DUI crash

Officers with the La Quinta Police Department said they arrested a 20-year-old man early Monday morning after he crashed his car while fleeing authorities.

According to the release, an officer came across a 2007 Hyundai Elantra stopped in the road on Avenida Martinez at about 2:50 a.m. When he walked up to the car, the driver sped away from the scene.

The suspect, later identified as Richard Jacob Hardin, ended up losing control of the car and crashed into a fence at Avenida Martinez and Calle Sonora. Officers said he ran from the crash but was later found at a home on Avenida Obregon. They said the car was registered to the address.

Officers determined Hardin was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

Hardin is facing charges of DUI and hit and run, officers said in the release.
