Authorities determine deadly train collision was suicide

A motorist was killed Tuesday in a collision with a freight train at a Mecca rail crossing, and now authorities said the incident is being investigated as a suicide.

The collision was reported at 5:40 p.m. on the railroad tracks near the intersection of Cleveland Street and Highway 111, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, two engine crews were sent to the location, where personnel pronounced the motorist dead at the scene.

Authorities didn’t release the person’s identity and said no other information will be provided regarding the suicide.
