Police say DHS school lockdown was due to domestic issue nearby

The Desert Hot Springs Police Department has lifted a lockdown at Desert Springs Middle School after officers were investigating a domestic issue where a suspect allegedly had a weapon.

The school is located at 66755 2 Bunch Palms Trail.

Information about the domestic issue is limited at this time. Desert Hot Springs police are expected to send out a news release later.

District officials said the school was on a minimum day because of parent/teacher conferences. All students from the after-school program, staff and parents on campus gathered in the multi-purpose room and conferences were still held during the lockdown.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 is working to get more details about the police activity and we’ll post that information as soon as we hear back from police.

This is the third Coachella Valley school placed on lockdown Wednesday.

At about 10 a.m., Rancho Mirage High School and James Workman Middle School were alerted after a gunman was near the campus, accused of shooting a man on Ramon Road near Rattler Way.
