President spends Valentine’s Day on the golf course

Sunday marks the third day in the desert for President Barack Obama.

The recreational part of his trip is soon to end, with the start of his two-day ASEAN Summit with leaders from Southeast Asian countries beginning Monday.

Some of those dignitaries could be arriving as soon as Sunday night.

Earlier Sunday, we found out how the president spent his Valentine’s Day in the desert.

After an early-morning workout, the president headed to Porcupine Creek for a round of golf with his usual foursome.

People in the neighborhood were happy to see him return.

“Well, we love it in the neighborhood, frankly. And I personally love Obama and we’re very happy to have him in the neighborhood. We come out and see him and he’s been here a few times, this is I think his third time and he’s always welcome here,” said Melissa McKay, who lives near Porcupine Creek.

Across town, road closures already underway for the Summit at Sunnylands.

Crews were setting up barricades on the southbound lanes of Bob Hope at Gerald Ford.

Some businesses in the shopping center deciding to close to avoid the hassle.

Other shoppers didn’t seem to mind the closures.

“Because I support the president and I have respect for anyone in the presidential office and I’m happy to go around the corner for that,” said shopper Marty Chesworth.

Some saying they’ll deal with the change because of the importance of the summit.

“Yes I’m in favor of anything that negotiates trade with its friends and allies,” said Norman Wine, who lives in Rancho Mirage.

Some movement of Air Force One at the Palm Springs International Airport had many wondering what’s going on.

Air Force One was turned to face eastbound, possibly to make way for all the dignitaries planes that are expected to land in the Coachella Valley.

All these preparations taking place on the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day.

Some hoping the president fulfills Michelle’s Obama’s wish for See’s Candy on the “The Ellen DeGeneres show.

“I know there’s a See’s Candy out there so bring me something chocolately back, you know what you need to do,” Michelle Obama said.

Others saying he should bring her back something more local.

“Oh Brandini’s toffee. It’s right down the street,” said McKay.

But as far as we know, the president has yet to make any runs for anything sweet.
