Stranded hiker rescued in Palm Springs

The Palm Springs Police Department Mounted Search and Rescue Team rescued a 50-year-old woman who became stranded while hiking Monday afternoon.

Officials said the woman strayed from the Skyline Trail, ran out of water, began cramping from dehydration and had difficulty making her way back down the mountain.

Rescuers were called to the Skyline Trail at about 11 a.m. The trail is located in the mountains above the Palm Springs Art Museum. City firefighters and a California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted with the rescue.

Rescue crews were able to communicate with her via cellphone.

The woman was taken to the hospital at about 1:30 p.m. in stable condition after being airlifted by a CHP helicopter to a landing zone at La Mirada Drive and Sunny Dunes Road, according to authorities.

Temperatures in Palm Springs reached 85 degrees around 12 p.m. Monday.
