Homicide investigation underway after infant dies in Blythe
Sheriff’s detectives announced Wednesday that they’ve opened a homicide investigation into the death of an infant brought to a Blythe hospital. Deputies were dispatched at 7:16 a.m. Tuesday to Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe for a possible case of child abuse involving a 6-month-old baby, said sheriff’s Sgt. Walter Mendez.
When deputies arrived, they were told that the child had died following a failed medical intervention, according to Mendez, who did not release the cause of death. The child’s name was also withheld.
The circumstances leading up to the child’s arrival at the hospital were under investigation by deputies from the Blythe station and the sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit. No arrests have been made, according to Mendez, who said that “due to the ongoing status of the investigation, no further information will be released at this time.”
Anyone with information was asked to contact Investigator Dan Moody of the Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3525, or Investigator Matt Morelock of the Blythe sheriff’s station at (760) 921-5769.
