Decision to omit Rancho Mirage from CV Link pending

The Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) is set to decide the fate of Rancho Mirage’s involvement in the CV-Link project on Monday.

In a Staff Report filed to be discussed at the CVAG executive meeting, the committee is being asked to take all steps necessary to omit Rancho Mirage segments from the project, according to officials.

It will also ask the city to respect the interest that neighboring communities have in welcoming the CV Link through the Coachella Valley by taking a formal position that Rancho Mirage will not take any actions that hinder the progress of the proposed project in other cities, CVAG officials said in a release.

Supervisor John Benoit stated in an email on Wednesday, “Clearly CVAG has never intended to go forward with the CV Link in Rancho Mirage over the City Council’s objections. But it seems Mayor Hobart still believes that is our intention, or at least he is leaving that perception in the minds of many citizens. I think it would be helpful if we went on the record as an organization to clearly state that is not our intention.”

The 50-mile pathway will connect the Coachella Valley and provide a safe route for pedestrians, bicyclists, golf carts and low speed electric vehicles. Rancho Mirage had stated they did not like the proposed path locations in their city. There are several measures on the April 12th Ballot asking residents how they feel about the CV Link Pathway.
