LifeStream blood bank honors local boy

A 12-year-old Palm Desert boy who required significant blood donations following a leg amputation will be honored at LifeStream Blood Bank’s 10-Gallon Donor Celebration event this weekend.

Adrian Grajeda suffered severe injuries to his right leg, requiring amputation, multiple surgeries and prosthesis. During his recovery, Adrian received blood from LifeStream, which serves as the exclusive provider of blood to all Coachella Valley hospitals, according to a LifeStream release.

Adrian, his older brother, and his parents will be in attendance at LifeStream’s Gift of Life Tribute, which celebrates the county’s most prolific donors.

The event, which will be held this Sunday, at the Riverside Convention Center, will feature a video focused on Adrian’s story. More than 1,000 donors will be honored, including eight individuals who donated more than 100 gallons or more in their lifetimes.
