Opening Day for Palm Desert Youth Baseball and Softball

Palm Desert Youth Sports Association celebrated Opening Day 2016. Over 800 baseball and softball players, along with their families, went to Civic Center Park today.

This year, opening day honored CAL Fire/Riverside County Fire Department with a special tribute. University of California Riverside Marching Highlanders Bagpipe and Drum Band, along with CAL Fire Color Guard and firefighters, walked onto the field, displaying the American Flag. A keynote address was given by CAL Fire Fire Chief, John Hawkins.

Palm Desert Youth Sports Association President, Richard Weintraub says it’s important for kids to get involved in sports. “It’s learning how to behave properly in a group situation,” he said. “You know, community teamwork, effort, enjoying the victory, learning how to take the loss, all of those life lessons out here.”

Registration for the spring 2016 season is at capacity, with the most players they have had in five years. If you would like to be placed on the waiting list, you can email pdysa@dc.rr.com.
