Valley runners support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at Warburton 5K

There was a great show of support at the annual Warburton 5K Run and Walk Sunday morning.

Hundreds of runners took to the course at the Classic Club in Palm Desert to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A family with orange sleeves was hard to miss as they ran and walked in memory of their 2-year-old daughter, Olivia, who died of cancer.

“Our daughter Olivia was diagnosed at six months. She went to treatment. She relapsed, unfortunately and went through (a) bone marrow transplant. Afterwards, she relapsed again, ” said Martin Velasquez.

The run kicked off “St. Jude Week” in the desert, one of the largest fundraising events for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Warburton Celebrity Golf Tournament continues this week, bringing more than 75 celebrities, songwriters and rock legends for a weekend of golf and a Friday night jam session.
