Woman held hostage by ex-boyfriend shot by police

New information tonight on a deadly hostage situation and police stand-off in Redlands last week. The police chief now says a woman, who was critically wounded while being held hostage by her ex-boyfriend, was shot by officers.

The police chief described the tense hostage situation and how 28-year-old Kristen Bauer was hit by police gunfire. The suspect, 29-year-old Andrew Mike went to a Redlands Office Depot where his ex-girlfriend worked.

Mike shot an Office Depot employee in the finger — then took bauer to a home where he held her at gunpoint for more than 2 hours. Toward the end of the stand-off, Mike made a sudden movement, pulled Bauer back as a shield and pushed his gun into her back.

Authorities believed Bauer was in immediate danger and chose to fire multiple rounds at mike in order to save her life. Mike later died. The police chief is hoping Bauer will make a full recovery.
