ORIGINAL STORY:

After being stuck in a canyon near Palm Springs for nearly two days, a couple of horses are now safe.

The rescue operation started Saturday, but nightfall forced members of the Horse Animal Rescue Team (H.A.R.T.) to come back Sunday morning.

One of the horses suffered serious trauma to its head on an initial fall, then fell a second time down a steep ravine as rescuers were evaluating the horse’s health.

Pilots from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department also joined the effort to save one of the horses.
