Driver turns fire hydrant into geyser in Palm Springs

A fire hydrant was hit by a car and turned into a geyser around 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Palm Springs.

Southbound Avenida Caballeros just south of Tahquitz Canyon Way was closed down in front of Shakey’s Pizza because of flooding.

Witnesses say the driver left the scene but left behind a bumper, including the car’s license plate.

There’s no word yet from police on a suspect.

Desert Water Agency was dispatched to shut-off the water which took about 45 minutes.

There are no reports of injuries.
