Billboard promotes safe sex for Coachella Music & Arts Festival

The Coachella Music and Arts Festival is less than a week away and there are billboards along Interstate 10 warning concertgoers of the risk of sexually transmitted diseases.

Thousands of people driving west on the 10 freeway between Bob Hope Drive and Date Palm Road might notice a billboard put up by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The words “Go in Peace” in similar font and style as Coachella Fest advertising. There is also a link to a website to get free STD testing.

“I think it’s a great idea i think there is a lot of unprotected sex going on. People are drinking a lot, they are on drugs, partying, hanging out they are not thinking of all the consequences that come along with having sex,” said Lauren Holm, manager of Skitzo Kitty, a sexual health and wellness store in Palm Desert.

Locals and concertgoers often stop by the store to stock up on condoms and other items of a sexual nature.

The Coachella Music and Arts Festival starts this Friday.
