HWY 74 crash investigation continues after Indio man’s death

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate Friday’s crash on Highway 74 in Mountain Center, which turned out to be deadly for a 48-year-old man from Indio.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Eutiquio Ramirez.

The California Highway Patrol said Ramirez was driving a Toyota pickup eastbound on Highway 74 when his truck went off the right side of the road and traveled down an embankment.

Ramirez was ejected from the crash when his truck overturned. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt and he died at the scene, officers said in a release. He was the only one in the truck.

Officers said they don’t know at this time if drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
