Indio man arrested for smash & grab burglaries
A 47-year-old Indio man was arrested Tuesday morning, accused of burglarizing multiple businesses in La Quinta, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells. KESQ and CBS Local 2 first reported the smash and grab burglaries on April 6, as the lengthy investigation was getting underway.
Officers with the La Quinta Police Department and the special enforcement team caught up to the suspect on Tuesday morning after responding to a commercial burglary at a business located in the 79700 block of Highway 111, according to Deputy Armando Munoz with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Jail records show he was arrested for trying to burglarize Walmart.
Officers arrested Keith Young at the scene for commercial burglary. Investigators tied Young to the additional smash and grab burglaries that recently occurred in Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells, officers said in the release.
Authorities said the suspect was targeting businesses such as dry cleaners, nail salons, beauty supply shops, auto parts stores, and restaurants.
Deputy Munoz wouldn’t say if more suspects are wanted in connection to the burglaries at this time, but did say all of the cases are still under investigation.
Young was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on felony charges, including second degree commercial burglary, and was scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Larson Justice Center on Thursday.
