900 local elementary students attend Math Field Day

More than 900 elementary school students took part in Desert Sands Unified School District’s Math Field Day.

The event held at Shadow Hills High School featured children playing in group and head-to-head competitions, all to practice their math skills and bring home the gold.

“We celebrate so many other activities–the soccer, then the actual athletic events, so we call them mathletes because they’re celebrating the fact that they love math,” said Mick Wilhite, Director of Supplemental Services with DSUSD.

Parent and teacher volunteers led the rotating activities. 14 different local schools were in attendance.
