128 arrested at first weekend of Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival

Indio police have released the arrest statistics from the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, and the numbers show an increase over the amount of arrests made during the first weekend of last year’s gathering.

A total of 128 people were arrested over the first weekend, compared to 93 in 2015, officers said in the release.

Arrests:

16 were arrested for public intoxication
57 were arrested for illegal possession of a controlled substance (49 of those were for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and eight were for felony possession of a controlled substance for sales)
46 arrests were made for alcohol related violations
2 arrests were made for outstanding arrest warrants
5 arrests were made for resisting/obstructing a peace officer
1 arrest was made for trespassing
1 arrest was made for a vehicle code violation

The concert series continues for the second weekend on Friday, April 22, where more arrests are anticipated as tens of thousands of visitors return to the Coachella Valley.
